Positions Vacant: Applied Cognitive Development Lab at the CRPP, NIE
The Applied Cognitive Development Lab at the National Institute of Education, Singapore is looking for research psychologists to join an energetic and productive research team working under the direction of Dr Rebecca Bull. The project will examine early developing numerical skills as predictors of later need for learning support in mathematics. The project will involve administering cognitive and numerical tasks to children in K2 and Primary 1.
1. Research Associate/ Assistant (Full-time)
Duties include study design, preparation of grant proposals, material preparation, project management, data collection, analysis, and report preparation.
Essential requirements
Research Associate position
- Master’s degree (by research) in cognitive, developmental or educational psychology (Students who have submitted their thesis are encouraged to apply)
- Ability to work independently and take on a leadership role
Research Assistant position
- Undergraduate degree in psychology or related fields, preferably with good Honours (Students who have submitted their Honours thesis/ final year project reports are encouraged to apply)
- Training in multivariate analyses
- A desire to publish and to pursue a research career in psychology
- Experience in conducting experiments and administering psychological tests
- Interest in cognitive-development and factors influencing academic performance
- Training in experimental and developmental psychology
- Excellent communication (verbal and written English) and inter-personal skills
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Ability to speak Mandarin, Malay, or Tamil (desirable but not essential)
Desirable requirements for both positions
- Training in multivariate analyses
- A desire to publish and to pursue a research career in psychology
- Experience in conducting experiments and administering psychological tests
- Interest in cognitive-development and factors influencing academic performance
- Training in experimental and developmental psychology
- Excellent communication (verbal and written English) and inter-personal skills
- Ability to work in a team environment

Other Information
Salaries are competitive and will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualification and experience. The initial contract is for one year. Depending on staff movement, the contract may be extended.
2. Research Assistants
(Hourly paid, up to 40 hours per week until December 2012, starting as soon as possible, could be converted to full-time contracted position for same period).
Duties include the administration of numerical, psychological and cognitive ability tests to children aged 6 to 8 years, basic data analysis, and liaison with education providers.
Essential requirements
- Undergraduate degree in psychology or related fields, preferably with good Honours (Students who have submitted their Honours thesis/ final year project reports are encouraged to apply)
- The positions would also be suitable for undergraduates majoring in psychology who are interested in gaining hands-on research experience
- Ability to communicate fluently in Malay is essential for one of the research positions. For the other research assistants, ability to speak Chinese, Malay, or Tamil would be desirable

Responsibilities
• Assess, identify and implement Therapy Programs for students, infants and children with special needs which include cognitive and functional rehabilitation.
• Evaluate & document clients therapy needs; monitor and evaluate their progress.
• To conduct clients psychological evaluations and assessments.
• Work with multidisciplinary team to provide holistic treatment for all clients with varying levels of disability.
